At Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in York, we provide specialist neurological rehabilitation for adults with a range of complex neurological conditions in a supportive, person-centred environment. We are now looking for an experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our specialist multidisciplinary team on a part-time basis, working 22.5 hours per week.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dysphagia competent Speech and Language Therapist with neurorehabilitation experience who is passionate about delivering high-quality, evidence-based care and making a meaningful difference to people’s lives.
The Role:
This is a part-time, 22.5 hours per week position. The ideal working pattern would be Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with flexibility to provide occasional Monday cover as required.
Key Responsibilities:
As our Senior Speech and Language Therapist, you will take a senior clinical role in the assessment, treatment and management of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties within a specialist neurological rehabilitation setting. You’ll work closely with the wider MDT to deliver person-centred, goal-focused interventions that support recovery, independence and quality of life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a defined caseload of adults with complex neurological conditions, including those with communication and swallowing difficulties
- Carrying out specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for speech, language, communication and dysphagia needs
- Providing evidence-based intervention for individuals presenting with aphasia, cognitive communication disorder, dysarthria, apraxia and dysphagia
- Assessing eating, drinking and communication abilities and ensuring recommendations are clearly communicated to the wider team
- Responding to urgent referrals and adapting intervention plans in line with changing clinical needs
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to contribute to person-centred rehabilitation programmes and risk management plans
- Offering specialist advice, guidance and consultation to colleagues, families and external professionals
- Accurately documenting assessments, interventions, outcomes and care plans within electronic patient records
- Supporting service development, departmental standards and the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based speech and language therapy practice
- Contributing to training, supervision and the sharing of specialist knowledge across the wider team where appropriate
About You:
We are looking for a confident and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist who has experience of working within neurological rehabilitation and is confident managing both communication and dysphagia needs.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- HCPC registration
- Experience working with adults with complex neurological conditions within a rehabilitation or specialist clinical setting
- Dysphagia competency and experience in the assessment and management of swallowing disorders
- Strong knowledge of neurological rehabilitation, evidence-based practice and person-centred goal setting
- Excellent communication, clinical reasoning and organisational skills
- The ability to work independently whilst also contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- A proactive, compassionate and flexible approach to care
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS
