Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, part of the Active Care Group, is a modern independent hospital providing an inpatient Level 1 intensive brain injury rehabilitation service (29 NHS England funded beds) for the South West of England and a further 23 slower-stream neuro-rehabilitation beds (Level 2). Both services are managed in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic and supportive team and develop your skills in neurorehabilitation.
You will be providing Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment for patients with complex needs following an acute neurological event such as traumatic and acquired brain injury, or other neurological conditions. You will ideally have clinical experience in the assessment and management of patients experiencing cognitive and physical impairments and subsequent difficulties in function.
The team consists of a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and a Consultant in Neuropsychiatry, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Nurses and Rehabilitation Technicians. Interdisciplinary working is optimised through shared goal setting and treatment opportunities. What you'll be working:
This role is 37.5 hours a week Monday to Friday.
What you'll be doing:
- Maintain a small independent caseload providing Occupational Therapy assessment and therapy for patients with complex rehabilitation needs.
- Develop comprehensive discharge plans, making timely referrals to and liaising with relevant community services.
- Evaluate effectiveness of interventions using agreed outcome measures.
- Provide Occupational Therapy as part of the multidisciplinary team, and be involved in MDT service developments, meetings and audit as appropriate.
- Adhere to risk management strategies agreed by the multidisciplinary team for individual patients.
- Act as ‘link therapist’ for patients and their families whilst they are treated at the Centre
- Provide supervision and support to Occupational Therapy Assistants alongside senior members of the team.
- Participate in reflective practice and engage actively in regular supervision.
- Maintain client records and collect activity data/statistics in accordance with company policy.
- Work in accordance with the HCPC professional practice, ensuring practice is evidence based and based on national clinical standards.
- Provide training related to Occupational Therapy to other multidisciplinary
- Provide training specific to individual patients to the nursing and care team as appropriate.
- Ensure full and accurate recording of interventions and assessments in line with Company and local policy.
- Undertake any other appropriate roles and responsibilities as requested and required.
What you'll have:
- Recognised Occupational Therapy degree or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- Ability to provide specialist assessments and treatments for patients
- Ability to develop comprehensive discharge plans
- Experience treating adults with complex rehabilitation needs
- Previous experience of working in a neurorehabilitation setting would be an advantage
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to be responsive and work under pressure
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS
