Hothfield Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine to join our specialist neuro-rehabilitation service on a part-time basis working 0.2 FTE.

Hothfield is a highly regarded specialist rehabilitation unit providing comprehensive multidisciplinary rehabilitation for adults with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), spinal cord injury, and complex neurological conditions including stroke. We support individuals with complex physical, cognitive, and behavioural rehabilitation needs following injury or illness through innovative, clinically led, technology assisted rehabilitation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant who is passionate about delivering high-quality neuro-rehabilitation and improving long-term outcomes for patients with complex neurological conditions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in clinical leadership, medical management, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation planning, working alongside a skilled team of therapists, nurses, psychologists and rehabilitation specialists.

The role is ideally suited to someone seeking a flexible part-time consultant role within an established neuro-rehabilitation service with a high calibre MDT.

To provide specialist medical leadership and clinical management for patients undergoing neuro-rehabilitation at Hothfield Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit, particularly those with:

  • Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Stroke and complex neurological conditions

The Consultant will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise recovery, functional outcomes and quality of life for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties

  • Provide expert medical assessment and ongoing management of patients with complex neurological rehabilitation needs bringing together high quality outcomes.
  • Lead the medical management of patients with ABI, spinal cord injury and stroke.
  • Develop and oversee individualised rehabilitation treatment plans in collaboration with the MDT.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds and multidisciplinary case reviews.
  • Manage complications associated with neurological injury including:
    • Spasticity
    • Pain
    • Neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction
    • Cognitive and behavioural issues
  • Supportgoal-setting and rehabilitation outcome planning

Multidisciplinary Team Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, nursing staff and therapy assistants.
  • Participate in MDT meetings and complex case discussions.
  • Provide medical input into rehabilitation goal setting and discharge planning.

Governance and Quality

  • Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support compliance with CQC standards and rehabilitation best practice guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and pathways.

Education and Support

  • Provide clinical advice and support to the wider team.
  • Contribute to staff training in neurological rehabilitation.
  • Support professional development within the MDT.

Person Specification:

Essential

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • CCT in Rehabilitation Medicine (or within 6 months of obtaining).
  • Experience in neuro-rehabilitation and complex neurological disability.
  • Demonstrable experience managing patients with ABI, stroke and spinal injury.
  • Strong multidisciplinary team working skills.
  • Experience in clinical governance and quality improvement.

Desirable

  • Experience working in specialist neuro-rehabilitation units.
  • Experience in spasticity management (e.g. botulinum toxin).
  • Interest in service development within rehabilitation medicine.
