Location: Hybrid – with regular travel to our Waterloo, London office (typically a couple of times each month, or up to once a week depending on business needs) and frequent visits to our services across the UK.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and inspiring Head of Colleague Communications & Engagement to help shape how we connect with colleagues across our organisation.

This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for creating and delivering a colleague communications and engagement strategy that brings our purpose, values and priorities to life. You'll ensure every colleague feels informed, valued and connected to the work we do, whether they're based in one of our services or in a support function.

Success in this role means being visible across the organisation. You'll spend time in our services, getting to know colleagues, understanding the realities of frontline working and uncovering the stories that make our organisation unique. You'll also build strong relationships with senior leaders, helping them communicate with authenticity, clarity and impact.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop and deliver an engaging colleague communications and engagement strategy aligned to organisational priorities.
  • Create compelling communications that bring our purpose, behaviours and strategy to life for colleagues across the organisation.
  • Partner with senior leaders to help them communicate openly, consistently and authentically.
  • Lead colleague engagement initiatives that strengthen culture, recognition, wellbeing, inclusion and belonging.
  • Support colleagues through organisational change with clear, timely and engaging communications.
  • Use colleague insight, survey feedback and communication metrics to continually improve engagement and effectiveness.
  • Oversee and develop digital communication channels, ensuring colleagues can easily access relevant information wherever they work.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality colleague events, including conferences, awards ceremonies, leadership events and engagement campaigns.
  • Build strong partnerships across HR, Operations, Marketing and other business functions to ensure consistent messaging and joined-up delivery.
  • Regularly visit services across the UK to understand colleague experiences, build relationships and identify stories worth sharing.
  • Lead and inspire innovative approaches to colleague communications, celebrating success and showcasing the incredible work happening across the organisation.

What you'll have: 

You'll be an experienced internal communications and engagement professional who understands how to connect people to purpose and create communications that inspire action.

You'll bring:

  • Significant experience leading internal communications and colleague engagement within a complex, multi-site organisation.
  • Outstanding storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex information into clear, engaging and meaningful messages.
  • Experience coaching and influencing senior leaders to become confident and authentic communicators.
  • A passion for creating outstanding colleague experiences through communication, recognition and engagement.
  • Experience using colleague feedback, engagement surveys and communication analytics to shape decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of digital communication platforms and channels.
  • Experience supporting organisations through periods of change and transformation.
  • A track record of delivering successful colleague events, conferences and recognition programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ideally, experience within healthcare, social care or another large, geographically dispersed organisation where engaging frontline colleagues is essential.
